Using a Knitting Loom

from: Deb St. George, Publisher, Tapestry-Crochet.com

Did you just discover that knitting is one of the best hobbies that one can have? If this is the case then you must been intrigued with the different tools which are used for the purpose of knitting. Knitting looms, Amish looms or knitting boards are some of the most commonly used tools in knitting work. It is because of the Knifty Knitter process that this method has become well-known among knitters. In fact, it is referred to as the next generation of the conventional frame looms. You will see a few grooved pegs that are evenly spaced alongside the central frame. You can wrap the yarn by making use of the pegs through the use of a number of methods. The yarn should be pulled on top of the peg by the knitter by making use of the angled hook.

You will find that beginners, including children, would make use of plastic knitting looms to start their knitting projects. This type of loom is offered in four different sizes and it is not only long-lasting but also light in weight. Now you must be wondering the way in which you can make use of this easy yet complex tool. You will find tips to use a knitting loom below:

Casting on- Before anything else, you will have to keep a thumbtack on one of the loom's sides to keep track of your starting point. Then, you have to tie a very easy slipknot onto the very first peg. You can do this in the right way by holding the looms so the the pegs face upward.

To Wrap- Make use of your desired yarn for the purpose of wrapping all the pegs in clockwise direction. Be very careful as you should not pull it in very tightly. However, you should retain a little loose wrap but not too loose. Rotate all the pegs in a clockwise manner and when you get to the thumbtack, rotate the pegs two more times. Make sure that there are three loops on each peg.

Start to Knit- When all the pegs have three loops, you can begin your knitting work. In order to start, you will need to have a nut pick or a crochet hook. Keep the edge of the knitting needle on the peg's base and gradually run it up so that it reaches the yarn. Afterwards, hook a strand of the yarn and pull it over the peg. You can get your first stitch when you do this. Repeat the procedure if you want to make more stitches.

I know you may find this to be a little complex as we do not have a step-by-step picture guide here. However, when you continue doing this you will find that this task is not nearly as difficult as it may sound.
