Basic Knitting 101
from: Deb St. George, Publisher, Tapestry-Crochet.com
Believe it or not but there are quite a few individuals who would find sewing to be an extremely complicated task when in reality, it is a very simple task. Likewise, do not be surprised if the same people find knitting to be a complicate task as well. What they do not know is that it is very easy and simple to familiarize oneself with the basic instructions of knitting.
Before you begin your knitting, it is important that you get the materials for knitting such as the special hook and yarn which is required for the purpose of knitting. When you are looking to buy yarn, you will come across a variety of yarns which will differ from each other. The yarn you purchase would be determined by the thickness that you want your project to have when you knit it. To know whether the yarn is natural or synthetic, you can check out the fiber content. On the other hand, the strands that are twisted to make a sturdy yarn are referred to as ply. Are you looking for materials that would last for a long time? If this is the case then you should opt for natural yarns because synthetic yarns tend to wear away more rapidly than the natural yarns.
What I would recommend you to do is to check out the specific basic pattern of that you are thinking of using, because by doing this you will automatically know what kind of yarn you will need. Thus, when you are in a shop to purchase the yarn, make sure that you examine the yarn carefully before buying it as proper scrutinizing of the yarn would let you know about the look and longevity of the final product.
Knitting requires a steel hook and this hook is available in a number of sizes. As a result, you may get puzzled as to which hook to buy particularly if you do not know about the number shown in the middle. In case you are thinking of going for wool yarns then I would recommend you to choose bigger circular knitting needles. On the other hand, if you do not have any idea about the size of the needle which you should buy then I would suggest that you ask any one of the store attendants to help you out with it. It would be great if you could see a sample along with the basic instructions for knitting your project. This way you would be able to do the knitting and know in advance how it is supposed to look when finished.
